Vegan Wines

Vegan wines refer to wines that are produced without the use of animal-derived ingredients or fining agents in their production process. Traditional winemaking often employs substances such as gelatin, egg whites, isinglass (fish bladder), and casein (milk protein) to clarify and stabilize the wine, which can result in the exclusion of these products from a vegan diet.

To be classified as vegan, a wine must adhere to practices that avoid any animal-based additives throughout its fermentation, processing, and bottling stages. Instead, vegan wines may utilize plant-based alternatives for fining, such as bentonite clay, activated charcoal, or plant proteins.

While the grapes used in vegan wines are nearly always vegan-friendly since they are plant-based, the key distinction lies in the absence of any animal-derived substances during the entire winemaking process. Consequently, vegan wines cater to consumers following a vegan lifestyle or those who prefer animal-free products, allowing them to enjoy wine without compromising their dietary choices.
